By Peter Rzehak, Golfdirector GC Zillertal–Uderns: »Quality with a vision«
I originally came from a skiing background* and switched to golf as a career change. I’ve been with the Zillertal Golf Club practically from the very first dig of the spade – and every year, I focus on one thing above all else: ensuring that we uphold the high quality of our course day in, day out. My additional training as a greenkeeper is certainly an advantage in this regard.
What makes our course special to me is its unique atmosphere: we’re not tucked away somewhere remote, but right in the heart of the valley, in the village of Uderns, against a backdrop that’s truly impressive with its three-thousand-metre peaks in the upper Zillertal. The course is flat and fair, yet with plenty of water hazards and undulating greens, it presents a challenge for players of all abilities. In addition to the Championship Course and the practice area, our clubhouse, with its “Genusswerkstatt” and sun terrace, also invites you to linger.
Being part of the Leading Golf Courses was a clear goal for us from the very beginning, because we wanted to consciously measure ourselves against high standards. The anonymous tests provide guidance, highlight areas for improvement and also serve as motivation for the team. In golf, quality is not a one-off achievement, but an ongoing endeavour.
*) Editor’s note: Although Peter never secured a World Cup victory as a downhill skier, he finished second on the podium four times – including in 1999 in Kitzbühel, alongside Hans Knaus and Werner Franz.
With sporty greetings!
